Aquaplanet Max 10’6 Review 2026 | The SUP That Delivers

Most beginner paddle boards get the job done for a season or two, then start to feel limiting as your experience grows. At that point, you realise you’ve bought a board, not a long-term setup.

The Aquaplanet Max 10’6 is built differently. It sits at the beginner-to-intermediate level, but the emphasis is firmly on the intermediate end. This is a board designed for paddlers who want to start well and keep progressing, backed by a kit package that matches the ambition of the board itself.

It might not be the flashiest SUP on the water. Instead, the Max is quietly focused — from the backpack to the paddle to the board itself, everything it does, it does extremely well.

The Verdict

The Aquaplanet Max 10’6 is one of the most complete paddle board packages at this price. The board is well-built, performs well on the water, and is suited to paddlers who want something they’ll grow into rather than grow out of. The kit — particularly the carbon fusion paddle, waist leash, and hydrophobic backpack — massively outperforms what you’d expect to find at this price point. Whether you’re just starting out or already comfortable on the water, the Max is a serious contender and one of the strongest all-round packages in this price bracket.

Top Features of the Aquaplanet Max 10’6

Here’s a closer look at the features that make the Aquaplanet Max 10’6 stand out from the crowd.

Carbon Fusion Paddle

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 2 1

The package includes a 3K carbon weave carbon fusion paddle weighing just 670g. That’s notably lighter than the aluminium paddles bundled with most boards at this price. The handle is a bulbous ergonomic shape designed to sit naturally in the palm of your hand, and height markings near the top allow for quick adjustments without guesswork.

Hydrophobic Backpack

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 3

A backpack isn’t usually a piece of kit I’d focus much attention on — but like everything else in this package, a lot of thought has clearly gone into making this an excellent bag. It’s a roll-top waterproof backpack with padded shoulder straps, a padded waist strap, a large front zip compartment, a smaller secondary zip compartment, fabric carabiner loops running down the centre panel, and a side paddle holder for carrying your paddle externally. The whole kit packs down neatly inside and sits comfortably enough to carry a decent distance to the water.

Quick-Release Waist Leash

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 4

Most boards ship with an ankle leash — the Max comes with a waist belt instead. In normal use, a waist leash is easier to forget about compared to one dragging behind your ankle. More importantly, in the event of an emergency, grabbing a quick-release toggle at your waist is considerably faster and more intuitive than fumbling for a pin on your ankle.

Honeycomb EVA Deck Pad

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 5

The Max uses a full edge-to-edge EVA deck pad, but it’s not your standard chunky foam pad. The honeycomb hexagonal pattern is a thinner pad that feels comfortable underfoot, allows the board to roll up smaller, and is quick to wipe down and pack away without needing to dry in the sun first.

Shatterproof Clip-In Fin

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 6

The single large fin is shatterproof and clips in without tools — no sliding rail system to faff with, just snap it in and go. It tracks well through the water and is easy to remove for transport or shallow water.

Three Carry Handles

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 7

A centre handle alone makes sense on paper; in practice, having handles at both ends as well makes a real difference. You can lower the board into the water from the tail, lift it out by the nose when it’s loaded with gear, or carry it with a second person grabbing either end.

Action Camera Mount

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 8

A new addition to the Max is a front-mounted action camera point compatible with standard GoPro mounts or a threaded screw mount for other options. Useful for anyone who wants to capture footage without a chest mount or separate pole.

Rear Kick Pad

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 9

A small raised kick pad at the tail gives more experienced paddlers a platform for stepping back and pivoting the board quickly during turns.

Kayak Seat Compatible

Five metal D-rings run down each side of the board, giving you a properly optimised layout for attaching a kayak seat (sold separately). This is a nice option to have — particularly for longer paddles or for getting kids on the water who might want to switch to a seated position.

At 31″ wide, the Max is slightly narrower than most all-round boards in its category — the majority sit at 32″ or wider. The trade-off is worth knowing about before you buy: less width means a touch more wobble for newer paddlers initially, but also better glide through the water once you’re comfortable. At 8.2kg for the board alone and 11.8kg for the full kit, it makes for a lightweight package.

If you want more length, the Aquaplanet Max Plus 11’8″ is also available in Beach and Horizon colourways — a good option if longer-distance paddling or open water is your priority.

My Personal Experience with the Aquaplanet Max 10’6

The Aquaplanet Max SUP arrived towards the end of June, right as the South Coast was being hit by some of the hottest temperatures I can remember. Excited to get it out on the water – I wasn’t prepared to wait for it to cool down, so I headed out early one morning to Barcombe Mills near Lewes — a stretch of the River Ouse I paddle fairly regularly — aiming to get on the water before the heat became unbearable.

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 11

The first thing I noticed, even before I got to the water, was the backpack. I’ve carried a lot of boards to launch points over the past few years, and this is comfortably one of the better bags I’ve used. The padded waist strap takes a surprising amount of weight off your shoulders, and the bag itself is narrow enough that it doesn’t feel awkward to carry.

Setting up took no longer than usual. The dual-action pump got the board up to 15 PSI without too much effort, the fin clipped in without tools, and I was on the water quickly. On that first paddle, I took my usual route from the car park down towards the Anchor pub and the sluice. Conditions were calm — flat water, light breeze, early morning light. The board felt immediately settled. It’s not a 33″ wide beginner board, so there’s a fraction less of that very forgiving, planted stability you get on wider all-rounders — but I’m well past the point where that registers. For me, the 31″ width felt like a positive: the board cuts through the water cleanly, glides well between strokes, and turns without needing much input.

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 14

I decided on a whim to portage past the sluice on this occasion and drop the board back in on the other side, to explore a stretch of the river I hadn’t paddled before. The river upstream of the sluice turned out to be a beautiful stretch of water — quieter, greener, and worth the extra effort. I had to turn back around twenty minutes in due to time, but I’ll be going back.

The paddle was the standout item for me throughout that session. At 670g, it’s noticeably lighter than anything I’ve used at a similar price point, and the handle shape — bulbous and ergonomic — sits perfectly in the palm. I’ve used paddles that came with boards close to £1,000 that weren’t as comfortable, and considering the paddle accounts for a lot of how enjoyable a session actually is, this one is excellent.

Aquaplanet Max Paddleboard 12

The only thing I’d change about the package is the pump. A dual-action manual pump is fine, and it does the job — but Aquaplanet includes an electric pump with some of their other kits like the Allround 10, and at this level, it would round off what is otherwise a very impressive package. Everything else in the box is really impressive. The waist leash is more practical than an ankle leash. The backpack is better than bags from brands charging twice as much. And the board itself is focused and well thought-through.

For anyone stepping up from their first board, or looking to buy something they won’t need to replace after a season, the Max is a serious contender.

Aquaplanet Max 10’6 Rating Breakdown

Build Quality — 5/5

The Max is constructed from fusion laminated drop-stitch with heat-welded seams and upgraded materials throughout. The construction feels solid throughout — the rails are dense and well-finished, the shatterproof clip-in fin is a smart choice over a standard plastic fin, and the honeycomb EVA deck pad is a step up from the chunky foam pads found on most boards. At 8.2kg it’s impressively light without any sense that corners have been cut to get there. Aquaplanet back it with a 3-year warranty, which tells you something about how confident they are in the construction.

Performance on Water — 4.7/5

At 31″ wide the Aquaplanet Max sits slightly narrower than most all-rounders, and you feel that in the way it moves — it cuts through the water cleanly and glides well between strokes. Turning is easy given the length, and the kick pad at the tail is a nice option for anyone who wants to step back and pivot more aggressively. Complete beginners may take a session or two to feel fully settled at this width, but for anyone with even a little time on the water, it feels confident and enjoyable rather than demanding.

Accessories & Kit — 4.8/5

This is where the Max really separates itself. The 3K carbon fusion paddle at 670g is the standout — it’s lighter and more comfortable in hand than paddles bundled with boards at twice the price, and the ergonomic bulbous handle shape makes a long session noticeably easier. The hydrophobic backpack with padded waist strap is well above the standard, and the quick-release waist leash is a more practical choice than the ankle leash most boards default to.

Value for Money — 5/5

As a sub £400 SUP, the Max sits at a price point where most boards are making compromises. This one isn’t, at least not in any area that matters. The carbon paddle alone would cost a meaningful chunk of that if bought separately, and the backpack and waist leash are both better than equivalents supplied with boards at significantly higher prices. Factor in the 3-year warranty and a board that’s well-suited to paddlers at multiple stages of their development, and the value case is strong.

Aquaplanet Max 10’6 Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Carbon fusion paddle — at 670g with an ergonomic handle, it outperforms paddles bundled with far more expensive boards
  • Hydrophobic backpack with padded waist strap — one of the SUP backpacks I’ve seen
  • Quick-release waist leash — more comfortable and easier to deploy in an emergency
  • Honeycomb EVA deckpad — packs down small and wipes dry fast
  • 3-year warranty — one of the longer warranties at this price point

Cons

  • 31″ width is slightly narrower than most allrounds — complete beginners may take a session or two to feel fully settled, though experienced paddlers will appreciate the added glide
  • Styling is understated — the Glacier colourway looks clean rather than bold; choose Prism or Sunrise if you want something more eye-catching

Top Alternatives to the Aquaplanet Max 10’6

Bluefin Cruise 10’8

The Bluefin Cruise 10’8 sits at a similar price to the Max and is a well-built board with a 5-year warranty. It’s wider at 32″, which gives beginners a bit more initial stability. Where the Max has the edge is on kit quality — the carbon fusion paddle and waist leash are all a step above what Bluefin includes.

Wave Woody 3.0

The Wave Woody 3.0 is another all-round board built for mixed conditions, and it looks great on the water. It comes in at a lower price point than the Max, but that difference shows in the accessories. The carbon fusion paddle, backpack, shatterproof fin and waist leash that ship with the Max are in a different league — and for most paddlers, that kit is where the extra investment is felt most.

Aquaplanet Allround 10

If your priority is storage and portability above all else, the Aquaplanet Allround 10 is worth a look. It folds in half lengthways rather than rolling into a bag, making it easier to store at home. It’s also cheaper. The trade-off is that the kit is a step down — no carbon paddle, no waist leash — and at 33″ wide, it’s more stable but slower through the water. That said, the Allround kit does include an electric pump!

Final Thoughts

The Aquaplanet Max 10’6 is one of those boards that doesn’t shout about itself — and doesn’t need to. It’s a focused, well-thought-out paddle board package that does everything it sets out to do extremely well.

If you’re buying your first board and want something you’ll still be happy with in three years, or you’re stepping up from a beginner SUP and want a board with a bit more performance edge, the Aquaplanet Max should be on your shortlist.

If you’re drawn to the Max but want a bit more glide for longer paddles, it’s also worth looking at the Max Plus 11’8″, which comes in Beach and Horizon colourways and gives you extra length without changing the core package.

Aquaplanet Max 10’6 FAQs

Is the Aquaplanet Max 10’6 good for beginners?

Yes, though it’s positioned more towards intermediate paddlers than pure beginners. At 31″ wide it’s slightly narrower than the widest beginner boards on the market, which means there’s a small adjustment period for newer paddlers. That said, most people settle into it within a session or two, and the quality of the kit means it’s a board you’ll grow with rather than outgrow quickly.

What’s the weight limit on the Aquaplanet Max?

The max payload is 178kg, with a recommended rider weight of 130kg. The extra capacity above the recommended rider weight is there to account for gear — a dry bag, water, snacks, or a child sitting on the front.

Does the Aquaplanet Max come with a paddle?

Yes. The package includes a 3K carbon fusion paddle weighing 670g — one of the best paddles bundled with any board at this price point.

How long does the Aquaplanet Max take to inflate?

With the included dual-action manual pump, you’re looking at around 10–15 minutes to reach 15 PSI. An electric pump, purchased separately, could cut that time considerably. The board can inflate up to 21 PSI for maximum rigidity.

What warranty does the Aquaplanet Max come with?

The current version of the Aquaplanet Max comes with a 3-year warranty — one of the longer warranties out there. Only Red Paddle Co and Bluefin offer longer cover as standard.

Can you use the Aquaplanet Max as a kayak?

The board is kayak seat compatible, with metal D-rings down each side in an optimised layout for attaching a kayak seat (sold separately). You’d also need a kayak paddle. It converts reasonably well for those who want the option of paddling seated.
