The Verdict

The VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit is a well-engineered, sustainably built coffee system that genuinely delivers one of the best cups of coffee I had outdoors. Its main strength is the combination of performance, durability, and versatility — the ability to run it as a two-person kit or strip it back for solo use is a real-world advantage. The only notable weakness is the size and weight, which makes it less appealing for ultralight setups. For anyone who wants a great cup of coffee on a hike, at camp, or on the roads — and wants kit that will last a lifetime — this is an easy recommendation.

Best For: Coffee lovers who want a quality brew anywhere outdoors — whether that’s wild camping, hiking, overlanding, or travel.

Price: £79.95 (Kit, two mugs) | £54.95 (Set, solo)

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

The VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit is a five-piece portable pour over coffee system made from 80% recycled 304 food grade stainless steel. It packs two 10oz double-walled mugs, a pour over dripper, a reusable mesh filter, a splash-proof lid, and a storage connector — all screwing together into one neat, tube-like unit. It comes with a lifetime warranty and a carry bag included.

Top Features of the VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

The Nest Pour Over Kit isn’t just a mug with a dripper on top — it’s a fully integrated system where every component is designed to work with every other.

Modular Five-Piece Design

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

The five components — two mugs, dripper, lid, and storage connector — screw together via a dual-thread system into one compact, tube-shaped unit. Everything nests together cleanly with no loose rattling parts, making it very easy to pack and carry. When you arrive at camp, it all comes apart just as intuitively.

Double-Walled Stainless Steel Construction

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit 10oz Mugs

The mugs and dripper both use double-walled vacuum insulation, keeping your coffee hot while you drink and preventing condensation on the outside. The double-walled dripper is a particularly smart touch — it keeps the water temperature more consistent throughout the brew, which matters for a quality pour over.

Reusable Stainless Steel Mesh Filter

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit Mesh Filter

The Nest filter is built from 304 stainless steel with PET threading and is designed to last the life of the kit. No paper filters to pack in or pack out, which is a genuine advantage for camping use. The mesh produces a clean, clear cup without any sediment.

Compatible with the Java G25 Grinder

The storage connector in the kit version is specifically sized to hold VSSL’s Java G25 grinder (sold separately). If you want to grind fresh beans in the field, the whole system — grinder included — assembles into one self-contained unit.

Lifetime Warranty

VSSL calls this “Geared for Life” and means it. There are no time limits on the warranty — as long as VSSL is in business, they’ll repair or replace your kit if something goes wrong. For a piece of gear you’ll use regularly for years, that peace of mind is worth something.

Comes in Five Colours

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit 16
My personal favourite was the Deep Moss because I love anything with an orange accent.

The kit is available in Cream, Black, Deep Moss, Everglade, and Sahara. It’s a small thing, but being able to pick a colour that suits you makes it feel less like generic camping kit and more like something you’ll actually want to use.

At 607g, the two-person Kit is heavier than most single-serve camping coffee options — the solo Nest Pour Over Set comes in at 354g as a comparison. For a dedicated two-person system with this build quality, though, the weight is understandable.

My Personal Experience with the VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit 19

I’ve had the VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit out on a good variety of outings over the past couple of weeks, which has given me a clear picture of exactly what this kit is — and isn’t — designed for.

On the trail, it performs exactly as you’d hope. I took it out on several hikes through the woods and across the kind of terrain you’d expect a kit like this to see.

Setup is simple. Place one of the mugs at the bottom, rest the dripper on top with the mesh filter inside, add your ground coffee, and pour over your hot water. Even if you’ve never used a pour over before, you’d work it out within a minute.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

My approach is to pour one full dripper of hot water, let that mostly filter through, then refill for a full 10oz cup. The result is consistently clean and clear, with great flavour and none of the grittiness you sometimes get with a French press. I use a Hario V60 at home because I prefer that filtered drip coffee style, and the Nest delivers something very similar in the field.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

I also took the kit away on a family trip to Legoland and rather than suffering through hotel room sachets of instant, I was making a quality cup of coffee in the room each morning. The Nest doesn’t need to be tied to wild camping or hiking — it works anywhere you have hot water.

You do need a means of boiling water, which is worth thinking about. When outdoors, that means a compact camp stove, or you can simply fill a good thermos before you set off and use that.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit Bag

The kit arrives in what looks like a padded sleeping bag-style bag, and it’s a nice addition. It’s slightly thicker than you’d expect, almost like it could provide light insulation – not that you would be carrying any liquid inside it, mind — but mainly it seems to be there for padding and protection. Either way, it looks great, fits the kit snugly, and keeps everything together neatly between uses.

Kit vs Set — Which to Buy

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit vs Set

The Pour Over Set (one mug, dripper, lid, filter — no storage connector) is £54.95 and works well as a compact, lighter solo option. The two-person Kit is £79.95 and adds the second mug and the storage connector. That £25 difference buys you flexibility. With the Kit, you can use the full two-person setup when you’re out with a friend or partner, or strip it back to just the lid, dripper, and one mug for a solo adventure. I personally feel that versatility is worth the little extra.

If you’re also considering picking up the Java G25 grinder, the full system nests together into one unit and becomes one of the most complete self-contained coffee setups available for the outdoors.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit Rating Breakdown

Build Quality — 5/5

The all-stainless construction here is excellent. The 304 food grade stainless steel feels solid and well-finished, the dual-thread screwing mechanism works smoothly every time, and the double-walled construction on both the mugs and the dripper adds real durability alongside its thermal benefits. The fact that 80% of the stainless steel is recycled is a nice sustainability credential too. Backed by a lifetime warranty, there’s nothing to knock here — this is built to last.

VSSL Dripper

Performance — 5/5

The Nest produces a great cup of coffee. The mesh filter delivers a clean, clear brew with good flavour and no grittiness, and the double-walled dripper helps maintain water temperature throughout the pour — which makes a real difference to the end result. As someone who uses a Hario V60 at home, I was impressed that the Nest produces the same quality in the field. For an outdoor pour over kit, that’s as good as it gets.

Features & Usability — 4/5

The modular design is clever and intuitive, setup is fast even if you’ve never used a pour over before. The compatibility with the Java G25 grinder adds real appeal for anyone who wants to grind fresh in the field. The only reason this doesn’t score higher is the size and weight — at 607g and 29.2cm tall, it’s a noticeable addition to your pack. Not a problem if you’re sharing the load with a companion or car camping, but ultralight backpackers will want to consider that carefully.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit 6

Value for Money — 5/5

£80 for a sustainably built, lifetime-warranted, two-person pour over kit that produces a quality cup is hard to argue with when you look at the alternatives. The Yeti Rambler Pour-Over is a similar price for a single-serve setup without a lifetime warranty. The VSSL gives you two mugs, a reusable filter, a carry bag, and that lifetime guarantee — all from a brand that clearly builds things to last. It’s not the cheapest option on the market, but it’s hard to argue that it’s not worth the money.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent coffee quality — clean, clear, flavourful brew every time
  • Lifetime warranty — fully backed for the life of the product with no time limit
  • Smart modular design — five pieces that assemble and disassemble intuitively in seconds
  • Genuine versatility — works as a two-person kit or a compact solo setup
  • Sustainable materials — 80% recycled stainless steel, BPA-free components, reusable filter

Cons

  • Size and weight — at 607g and 29.2cm tall, it’s not a kit for ultralight backpackers
  • Mesh filter needs rinsing out — more of a faff to clean in the field than a throwaway paper filter system like the AeroPress. Hand washing is recommended across the whole kit, so factor that in
  • Hot water required — you’ll need a stove or a thermos, which is an extra consideration to plan for

Top Alternatives to the VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit

Yeti Rambler Pour-Over

The Yeti Rambler Pour-Over is a comparable-quality single-serve option. It’s well-built and produces a good cup, but it’s priced similarly to the VSSL Nest Set without offering a lifetime warranty, and there’s no two-person option. If you’re committed to the Yeti ecosystem it makes sense, but the VSSL edges it on warranty and overall system design.

AeroPress Go

The AeroPress Go is the lightweight traveller’s favourite — compact, lightweight at around 300g, and incredibly simple to use with a throwaway paper filter that makes post-brew cleanup faster. It produces a slightly different (and more concentrated) style of coffee. If weight is your priority or you prefer espresso-style brew, the AeroPress Go is a strong choice. If coffee quality and sustainability are your priorities, the VSSL wins.

Stanley Perfect Brew Pour Over

The Stanley Perfect Brew is a budget-friendly option at around £35 and gets the job done. Build quality and finish don’t match the VSSL, and it lacks the double-walled dripper and lifetime warranty. It’s a solid entry point if you’re not sure whether pour over camping coffee is for you, but the VSSL is a notably better product.

Final Thoughts

The VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit is one of the best adventure coffee kits out there. It looks great, it’s built to last, and most importantly, it makes a brilliant cup of coffee wherever you happen to be.

It’s best suited to hikers, campers, overlanders, and travellers who take their coffee seriously and want a two-person setup that doesn’t compromise on quality. The size and weight mean it’s not one for ultralight gram-counting missions, but for most trips it’s an excellent piece of kit.

If you’re looking for something that will outlast everything else in your pack, the lifetime warranty alone makes this worth serious consideration.

VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit FAQs

The Kit (£79.95) includes two 10oz mugs and a storage connector designed to hold the VSSL Java G25 grinder. The Set (£54.95) is a solo version with one mug, the dripper, mesh filter, and lid — but no storage connector and no second mug. The Kit also gives you the option to break it down and use it as a solo setup when needed.

Yes, the grinder isn’t included in the Kit — it’s sold separately. The storage connector in the Kit is designed to house it, so if you want the full integrated system you’d need to add the grinder. It’s also available as a bundle directly from VSSL.

At £79.95 with a lifetime warranty, sustainably built from recycled stainless steel, and capable of serving two people, yes — it represents solid value compared to alternatives at a similar price point that don’t include the same warranty or two-person capability.

Hand washing is recommended throughout — VSSL doesn’t specifically say it’s not dishwasher safe, but it’s best to play it safe and wash by hand. In the field, a rinse with water and a quick wipe is usually enough between uses. The mesh filter takes a little more effort to clean out fully than a disposable paper filter, but it’s nothing that can’t be sorted at the next water source or back at camp.

Either works. I use pre-ground coffee on most outings — it’s simpler and one less piece of kit to carry. If you have the Java G25 grinder, you can grind fresh beans directly into the filter for a fuller flavour.

The double-walled vacuum insulation does a solid job. I had a coffee at home in the garden with the lid on and was still sipping it comfortably after around 45 minutes to an hour — which is well beyond what you’d need on a trail break. As long as you put the lid on after brewing, heat retention is not a concern.
