Mac in a Sac Ultralite Cap Review – The Perfect Running Cap?

Updated April 4, 2025

Leading on from my previous review of the Mac in a Sac Ultralight Running Jacket, I thought I’d also share my thoughts on their Ultralite Cap, which I’ve worn every day since picking it up at the National Outdoor Expo last month.

My Experience with Mac in a Sac Ultralite Cap

Now, it’s no secret I love a cap—I’ve got way too many already. But I didn’t have one specifically designed for running, so this was a no-brainer addition when buying the Ultralite jacket.

I always run in a cap to keep my long, messy hair out of my face, but on longer runs, I tend to overheat and end up taking it off—defeating the purpose of wearing it in the first place. I needed something lightweight and breathable.

Enter the Venture Series Ultralite Cap.

Weighing just 31 grams, this cap is so light you’ll barely notice it. Made from the same material as the Ultralite Jacket, it’s fully seam-sealed, waterproof, and breathable, allowing heat and sweat to escape while keeping you protected.

For a running cap, a secure and comfortable fit is key. The last thing you want is to be chasing it down after a gust of wind. The Ultralite Cap features a thin velcro strap, making quick and easy adjustments possible while on the move.

Then there’s the peak—a simple but clever design choice to reduce weight and improve packability. Instead of being one solid piece, the peak has a lightweight framework with cutouts, making the cap easier to fold and pack into even the smallest pockets.

Overall, the Ultralite Cap has everything you need for active use. I honestly don’t know what else could be improved—maybe a few more colour options? Right now, it’s only available in black and navy blue, which wasn’t an issue for me since I love a black cap. Plus, the small orange accent on the branding adds a nice touch.

Mac in a Sac Ultralite Cap Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Thin velcro strap for quick and easy adjustments on the fly.
  • Breathable, so staying cool whilst running isn’t a problem.
  • 100% waterproof.

Cons

  • Lack of colour options available.
  • The peak is shorter than a regular cap.
